Established at UW-Madison’s School of Library and Information Studies in 1994, the Society of American Archivists Student Chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a student group for those passionate about the documentation of the human experience. It is our aim to facilitate the intellectual and professional growth of our members as well as advocate for the archives profession on campus and in the community.
The Society of American Archivists Student Chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a student organization for the expression of ideas relating to the activities of the Society of American Archivists and the archives community. Through student led and professional events, we encourage discussion of archival issues among student members, professionals in the field and others who share an interest in the documentation of the human experience.
We, as individuals and as an organization, strive to create a more inclusive archival profession. We work towards a greater understanding of how professional practices, policies, archival theory and ethics impact historically underrepresented communities and to foster trust, respect and collaboration between the archive and the communities they serve.
The SAA-SC promotes collaboration with other student organizations and local institutions, libraries, museums and archives and advocates for the importance of the archives profession on campus and in our community.
